Commissioned: 25.11.2024

Publishing: 10.02.2025

Key message:

The Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food and Environment (VKM) shall assess the environmental risk of using the parasitic wasp Anagyrus vladimiri as a biological control agent.

The assessment is being carried out for the Norwegian Food Safety Authority.

Background

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority has received an application for approval of the plant protection product CITRIPAR with the active organism Anagyrus vladimiri. The product has been applied for the control of various species and stages of mealybugs in greenhouses and plastic tunnels. The product is also intended for use in indoor plants.

Assignment

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority asks VKM to assess and provide opinions about the:

  • occurrence and distribution of the organism, especially if the organism occurs naturally in Norway,
  • potential for establishment and spread of the organism in Norwegian conditions, and
  • uncertainty about taxonomy which may influence the risk assessment.

Project group

Johan A. Stenberg – Panel on Plant Health (scientific lead)

Anders Nielsen – Panel on Biodiversity

Lawrence R. Kirkendall – Panel on Biodiversity

Selamawit Tekle Gobena – VKM Secretariat (Project Manager)

Daniel Flø – VKM Secretariat

The risk assessment will be approved by the Panel on Plant Health, and is scheduled to be published in February 2025.
